The Tortoise and the Hare Reader and Activities

Hello friends! I've got quite a handful of activities to share with you.

Get ready to feel excited about fables with The Story of the Tortoise and the Hare emergent reader! Your littles will LOVE having their very own kid-friendly version of this story to read on their own.

This fable was written with high frequency words in mind. I tried to use as many and I could naturally squeeze in! Use fun scented crayons (snifff!...ahhhh...) to 'butter' the various phonics sounds or words you are currently working on with your kiddos. 

The following pictures of the book's 13 pages tell the story of how the bragging hare was taught a lesson by the determined tortoise. 

Have your little readers trace the path that the tortoise and the hare mapped out for their race!

The last page of the story allows little readers to reflect and practice a writing response.

To go along with this mini-unit, I recommend making adorable crafty tortoises such as these from FrugalFun4Boys. Just make sure to ask parents and friends to help you collect egg cartons a few weeks before your unit so that you'll have enough!
