Grandparents Day activities for kids
Grandparents Day is just a few weeks away (September 10th) so I thought I'd share some activities that you can use with your kiddos in celebration of their loved ones.

This day is a really hard one for me to blog about, as it brings to mind memories of many dear grandparents who are no longer with us. At the time that these activities were made, a very special Great-Grandma had just passed. These resources were made in special honor of her.

Alright, let's brush those tears aside and dive into some things that will give your littles a chance to appreciate and celebrate the grandparents in their lives!

You never know what activity or craft their grandparents will hold dear to their hearts. Earlier this year, Great-Grandpa also passed. Amongst some of his belongings was one of the Love Notes (I'll show you them below) that one of my kids had written him from this resource pack! So I encourage you to encourage your students to pass on their completed cards, coloring pages, and notes to their grandparents. It will be a very special to them if it was saved and they receive it back some day.

So the "We Love Grandparents" pack includes 22 pages that you can print and use. It was made with Kindergarten in mind, but can be used for Preschool and even First Grade.

It has both Upper and Lower case Alphabet letter tracing practice. Number tracing too. Multiple mazes with no blocks give all learners a chance to succeed. Students can make it harder if they'd like by drawing in their own blocks! Phonics beginning, middle vowel (CVC), and end sounds practice has adorable grandparent pictures on them.

And here are the Love Notes I mentioned above. There are a bunch to choose from, including a foldable card! A color-by-number and also coloring sheet are included for some color word fun.

Some simple syllable and measurement activities will give students the extra practice they may need. And some simple cut-out puzzles in both black/white and full color are also available. *Note that not all of the pages included in the pack are shown here in the blog.*

Does your school host a Grandparents Day event?
If so, you may want to pull some of these activities for your littles to do with their special person(s)! This next activity is perfect for that...

Grandparents Day BINGO!
(High Frequency Word style!)

If Grandparents are coming (and even if they're not) this is an excellent way for students to show off the sight words they've learned so far. It's also an easy opportunity for their grandparents to take part in helping them if needed!

There are THIRTY Bingo cards to choose from.

And the following 48 words are scrambled amongst the various boards:

The calling cards are LARGE so that all students (and grandparents) can easily see them from the front of the room.

Enjoy preparing for Grandparents Day for your littles! I know that their loved ones will appreciate the time and effort you spend making their special day memorable!

Let me show you  a closer look!

There are actually six different covers that you can choose from for this activity. Both male and female students can choose to make one for their mom, aunt, or grandma. Your fast finishers can make multiple ones!
I had my five year old (who's not yet in Kindergarten) make a sample so that you can see the steps students need to take to complete this project.
Start by having them pick a cover and color it.
Then they can grab a pencil and fill out the beginner writing portions of all the pages included. The first page has the "All About" and "Favorites" tabs. I know you can't see it in this picture, but she thinks that I only weigh 30lbs! Woo-hoo, lol!
The next page encourages students to write about something their mother, aunt, or grandma dislikes. My daughter knows me well...she wrote that I dislike fits! Then she drew a picture of her brother and sister throwing fits - ha!
Next, students will draw a portrait of their special person. For the record, I don't own a pair of yellow pants...but maybe she wishes I did?
Then they will write out what dreams their special person has. My big dreams for life are apparently to get out of the house for a change!
Finally, they write 5 reasons why they love their mom, aunt, or grandma.
Time to cut it all out! Simple cutting and easy assembly allows for all students to happily succeed.
Now throw some math in there, and have your students practice measuring by laying out the tabs from shortest to tallest!

Glue the tabs together to make a flip book!
Now your students can take turns reading their flip books to their peers before taking them home to make their special someone feel extra loved!

Are you ready for some football??!!
To be honest, I'm really not a football fan (Ah! Did I really just admit that out loud?!), but I know a lot of littles that are.
Let me show you some of the things that are in my Football Activities pack and then I'll give you a link for a Football Freebie!
First I want to show you this Subtracting Footballs Emergent Reader.
Each page asks students to figure out how many footballs are left after a specific number of them are 'kicked' away. You can have your students cross out the kicked-away number of footballs, or you can have them use the included football manipulative pieces to figure out each book page's answer.

Besides the reader, the Activity Pack also includes practice in beginning and end sounds, short vowels, color word recognition, measurement (shortest, tallest), syllables, number recognition, & rhyming words.
Here are some more of the included printouts...
This Football Color-By-Number FREEBIE is also included in the pack.
Your littles are going to absolutely love this activity!
You can download this Football Color-By-Number absolutely FREE!

Have fun!!!

It's January...which means it's Polar Habitat time!
Today I'm going to show you what's included in my winter top-seller Polar Habitat Pack. You'll find everything you need...and more...to supplement your Polar Animals theme. This non-fiction pack includes more than 200 pages of activities. It was made with PreK-2nd in mind. Most of the activities can be as easy or as hard as you want them to be.

Set of 3 Differentiated Emergent Readers
(With Corresponding Class Books)
Each book is 15 pages long. There are 3 different levels to choose from.
Easy - "The penguin lives in the polar habitat."
Medium -"The penguin spends most of its time in the water hunting for food."
Hard - "The penguin spends most of its time in the water hunting for food. It is not able to fly, even though it has wings."
There are also colorful, matching class books for each level. You can laminate and bind them or even just hang them around the classroom to use as 'facts posters'.

Vocabulary Posters & Pocket Chart Pieces
Here is a list of the Polar animals/objects that are included in these posters and pocket chart pieces:
...ice floe, (blue) whale, seal, penguin, walrus, puffin, snow goose, moose, Arctic fox, Arctic hare, snowy owl, polar bear, igloo, Eskimo & Inuit (You can choose which term is used in your location. I recognize that in some areas, "Eskimo" is considered derogatory and yet in others it is the acceptable term, so I've included both.)

Write the Room {Polar Hunt} Activity
This Write-the-Room comes with colorful animal/object pieces that you can hide around the room! Send your kids hunting for Polar themed animals/objects and then have them write the ones they find.

Polar Flip Book
Color, cut, & glue various Polar themed animals/objects to create a Flip Book. A great activity to practice fluency!

Polar Organizers & Fact Sheets
These organizers and fact sheets are perfect for individual research projects. All of the animals/objects listed above are included. Once they are completed, you can laminated and bind them to make a class book!

Labeling (Writing or Cut/Paste) Sheets
You can choose if you want your littles to cute and paste the words into the blanks...or have them write the words. There's plenty of room to do either way.

Polar Head Bands
Simply color, cut out, and glue onto a sentence strip to make the perfect Polar Animal Head Band. A perfect 'costume' pieces for students to wear after completing their individual animal report. You can have them wear it while they stand in front of the class and tell facts about the animal they researched!

You may have seen that I blogged the other day about this Polar Color-by-Number FREEBIE. It's part of my Polar Habitat Pack too!

Well, I hope these Polar themed activities make implementing your theme a breeze! Thanks for stopping by!
